William René Leon

Founder and coordinator of the CAIRN network, as the surviving documents record him.

William René Leon founded and coordinated the CAIRN Consortium. In its regulations he is recorded as EXE/FO, with the functions of chief executive, General Secretary and coordination. This page records his work in the network the documents preserve.

Role in the network

In the member-status list of the surviving regulations Leon appears first, under Nepal, for the CAIRN Consortium itself, with the status EXE/FO and the functions of chief executive, General Secretary and coordination (CAIRN-2008-MOU). The same corpus shows him as the point through which the network's parts were held together: Nepal and the St Xavier's campus in Kathmandu, Swansea, Louvain, Canada, the United States, France and Italy.

The Keltic and Himalayan lines

The Avalon / Verdon material names Leon alongside Tibetan and Mongolian teachers and Dr. Marco Paret in connection with the Valcros Raven Retreat of 2008–2009, and with escorted journeys to Keltic and Cathar sites in South France (CAIRN-2012-AVALON). Those pages were still being updated in July 2012.

Correspondence

Three letters in the private archive show his hand directly. In December 2013 he writes of rebooting the Professional Doctorate School, with research for 2014 and limited annual training in the Nice area, with Paret as partner. In August 2015 he circulates an upgrading of the school and a proposed board structure. In February 2018 he writes from Kathmandu that he will study, edit and give feedback on material Paret has been sending, and asks him to continue.

Read together, and read carefully, those three letters describe a coordinator still coordinating: planning, restructuring, and reading other people's work. That is the figure this archive preserves.

Private correspondence is published from the historical archive in redacted form; personal data unrelated to the historical record has been removed.
