Twenty-three years, page by page

In December 2003 the first page of the CAIRN Consortium went online. It named a Jesuit campus in Kathmandu, the development-studies centre of Swansea University, the prospective anthropology unit of the Université catholique de Louvain, and the ISI-CNV Institute of Nice. What was being built was uncommon: a working academic bridge between the Himalayan and the European traditions of knowledge, with a professional doctorate at the end of it. Twenty-three years later those pages are still readable.

What follows is the paper trail of that undertaking: two decades of work across nine countries and four continents, joining Tibetan and Himalayan medicine to European university research. Directors of Tibetan medical clinics in Kathmandu, anthropologists at Louvain, development scholars at Swansea, practitioners in Canada and the United States, and the ISI-CNV Institute in Nice, which carried the European training in hypnotherapy and non-verbal communication into the network. When Lycos closed Tripod in April 2026, after thirty-one years, the record could have gone with it. It did not: the Internet Archive had been preserving those pages since 2003.

Dr. Marco Paret and ISI-CNV are not a footnote in this record. Across the consortium's four websites, ISI/CNV (Dr. Marco Paret) is a permanent entry in the navigation menu, beside CETRI and Ambilac, and the institute is named in the affiliation statement printed at the foot of page after page, year after year:

When the pages were first archived

The chart traces a presence sustained without interruption from 2003 to 2018, then the heavy bars of 2021 and 2022, when the Internet Archive swept the sites systematically, and finally 2026, the last captures taken weeks before the host closed.

Why we publish the whole thing

Institutions tend to describe their history rather than show it. We would rather hand you the documents.
