PNL SCIENTIFICA

AB ABSTRACT: Much of the language of neurolinguistic programming (NLP) derives from Ericksonian hypnosis and the techniques utilized in both can be successfully integrated to facilitate effective therapeutic change, particularly in cases where clients have poorer verbal and social skills, or are resistant to behavior change in therapy. This paper describes the use of NLP and Ericksonian techniques in hypnosis with clients in the criminal justice system. In Case 1, a 28-yr-old Maori man who was charged with assault on a female became violent and depressed and assaulted and harassed a married woman with whom he had an affair when he realized that she was not taking the relationship seriously. In Case 2, a 30-yr-old part Maori man began to experience panic attacks soon after he was sentenced to prison for aggravated robbery. In both cases, a basic NLP technique, enhanced by hypnotic language patterns, worked effectively to bring about successful outcomes. AB ABSTRACT: Distinguishes between visual, auditory, and kinesthetic neurolinguistic programming representational systems that are used by clients to process incoming perceptual information. General characteristics of individuals with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic channels of behavior are listed as well as specific eye movements characteristic of these 3 representational systems. It is suggested that a therapist reading these client cues can improve therapist-client communication tremendously and help to develop strong trust and rapport ties. AB ABSTRACT: Studied the 2-yr activity of psychotherapists in a medical cooperative serving clients aged under 15 yrs to over 60 yrs. The demographic features of the client population were examined, and treatment effectiveness was assessed. Psychotherapy sessions were conducted in the evenings 3 times/wk for 3 hrs. 372 clients, most with neurotic or neurotic-like disorders, were seen during the 2-yr period. Rational psychotherapy, hypnotic suggestion, neurolinguistic programming, autogenic training, and psychopharmacotherapy were used. AB ABSTRACT: Provides a brief overview of the growing body of evidence that a proportion of adult sexual offenders present with some localized form of brain pathology, often left temporal lobe, that may, in part, explain the presence of gender dysphoria and the attraction to deviant behavior patterns in sexually anomalous men who prefer child surrogate partners or unsuspecting women. The techniques employed rely on social skill training, psychodramatic role plays (using a doll or mannequin), stress reduction and anger management, empathy training, guided visualization, neurolinguistic programming, cognitive restructuring, sketches of covert fantasies or deviant actions for group discussion, and victim-perpetrator role reversal, selectively applied within the context of a relapse prevention model for adult sexual offenders. AB ABSTRACT: Describes the use of neurolinguistic programming techniques in preparing information to be presented in a courtroom setting and in maximizing the effectiveness of testimony. Three cases are included, in which emphasis is placed on obtaining and presenting sensory-oriented descriptions and findings. These techniques have the capability to enhance the listeners’ ability to relate to the subject of the testimony, to maintain their attention, and to increase their interest in the material presented. AB ABSTRACT: Employed neurolinguistic programming (NLP) principles to develop a positive self-identity in an elderly male patient in England recovering from clinical depression. This novel technique encouraged recall of intrinsically rewarding past experiences. Each experience was conceptualized in an image and compiled chronologically in an imaginary book, providing continuity to what were chaotic and fragmented recollections during the immediate postdepressive stage. The scrapbook approach to alleviating depressive symptoms combines NLP principles, sensory modality preference in information processing, guided reminiscence and recall therapy, and the lifebook method. AB ABSTRACT: Describes 3 cases in which hypnotherapy was used in the context of marriage and relationship counseling. The main influences on the approaches used come from Ericksonian hypnosis, analytical hypnotherapy, and neurolinguistic programming. Working principles are derived, and it is argued that hypnotherapy is a more potent change process than traditional counseling approaches. AB ABSTRACT: Examined within-person and between-group changes in trait anxiety and locus of control as measured on the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale. Ss were 27 men and 30 women participating in a 21-day residential training program in neurolinguistic programming. Significant within-person decreases in trait-anxiety scores and increases in internal locus of control scores were observed as predicted. Results confirm the effectiveness of neurolinguistic programming in lowering trait anxiety and increasing the sense of internal control. AB ABSTRACT: Discusses limiting beliefs and ways to change them in therapy. The basic elements of a belief change process included at least some of the following: eliciting and installing appropriate, resourceful states in the client; a procedure for going back in memory with these new resources; an objective assessment of the new generalizations formed; consolidation and integration of the new beliefs; mental rehearsal of the future; and testing the new beliefs. A case illustration involving a woman in her 30s is presented. (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1992 American Psychological Assn, all rights reserved)
