CHAPTER XXVII GOLDEN LAWS AND AXIOMS OF APPLIED PERSONAL MAGNETISM
DURING the lessons and steps up to this graduation
point, there has been born, built and budded within you, the great force known
as Personal Magnetism. For your final encouragement and inspiration, you now
unfold the flower of magnetism—that has beauty and attraction, and wins
admiration from mankind. Here are definite directions for using your new
strength in the "outside world"—in dealing with other people. If you
will master yourself to the extent of using the following principles,
you will be well in possession of that intangible something—that supposedly
mysterious power— which is popularly referred to as "a winning
personality."
At the core of all applied personal magnetism
is this granite law:
Deal with others for their
pleasure—and your profit.
But this caution is necessary, since violation
of the rights of others carries within the act, its own penalty: Never use
your powers for dishonorable or unfair purposes.
YOUR PRIVATE CODE OF MAGNETISM
1.
Carefully gauge the use of personal magnetism. Be miserly of it, when
not required for the matter before you. "Don't needlessly use personal
magnetism" is plainly a basic warning.
2.
Do not make unnecessary display or show of Personal Magnetism:
"conserve always" is the rule.
3.
Keep it secret that you are learning the art of Personal Magnetism.
There is an underlying law which states that leakage of your forces occurs, if
you make it generally known you are studying this subject.
4.
In every contest of whatever nature with other people, endeavor to make
it a fight to victory for you.
5.
In all matters relating to your inner private life— keep your own
counsel. Secrecy is a power little used and less understood by most people.
6.
The master of magnetism is never a follower—a trailer. Originality,
strategy, daring and initiative must be yours in high degree. Try to do and be
something different from others.
7. Study other people; study your own power resources.
Learn to draw out the latent qualities and abilities of others, by
encouragement, suggestion, advice. Every favor you can do another man, is a
means of attraction—or personal magnetism.
8. Conceal all
dislikes, all negative feelings, disappointments or doubts while in the battle
of magnetic action before others. Maintain unruffled composure and coolness. If
dissatisfaction must burst out, hold it back until it cannot jeopardize your
interests.
9.
In proportion as you develop and use personal magnetism, will men pay
you homage, respect and wealth. Therefore seek every opportunity—welcome every
occasion—where you can exert magnetism, tho the secret of your influence be
unknown to others.
10.
The multitude is at all times ready to follow a man or woman of force
and leadership. Seek achievement on the most extensive lines. It really is
pitiful how most people live out lives of littleness—although possessed of
slumbering endowments which if awakened, would stagger the imagination.
11.
Realize the force of Napoleon's method: "An army should be divided
for sustenance, and concentrated for combat." It requires mental and
physical energy for active use of personal magnetism. Don't waste or release such force
when no object is to be gained. But when required—crowd
magnetism forward to the last ounce, if necessary.
12.
One of the world's dominant personalities organized, early in his
career, what he called "The Battery of Men Without Fear." Think this
over—personal magnetism requires that you belong to the "battery of men without
fear."
13.
In all application of magnetism, the GOAL—the result—the reward—is the
vital thing. Whether it be ten minutes, ten days or ten years—cling
tenaciously, unwaveringly until it is won. Ninety per cent of the world's
failures are quitters.
14.
Drill yourself constantly in the ways of broader thinking. Seek the
crowning ability which is perfectly at home 'midst affairs of great scope and
importance.
15.
Personal Magnetism wins its greatest distinction by actions, not mere
words; by deeds, not mere promises. Talk, dream, and theorize—but in addition,
push them thru to realization.
16.
Frequently, in imagination, look out over the whole broad world of human
activities as related to your particular business or profession, seeing things
in the vast magnitude of great numbers. Build the type of mind that is
accustomed to familiarity with BIG matters. Be not forever cramped in the
narrow ruts of life.
17.
Use the Giant Power of Will—the strong, irresistible human force which,
a scientist says, is "one third energy, one third thought, and one third
PERSONAL MAGNETISM."
18.
In all personal contact, quickly and carefully adjust to the particular
type of such people. With common people be free, open, cordial, hale-fellow,
well-met; with big people easily and confidently rise to their level of thought
and action.
19.
At all times, to the limit of judicious expenditures, appear well-to-do,
prosperous, "in funds." Express in action and dress the atmosphere of
success.
20.
Maintain self-control. Be master of body, emotions, motions. Use
magnetically voice, facial expression, gesture and thought.
21.
The greater the fund of magnetism, the more it conceals nervousness,
faltering, or fear in the face of doubtful situations. Learn to skillfully
cover disaster and quickly recover on any seeming defeat.
22.
Genuine personal magnetism avoids bragging, ostentation, or
bluff—because it is the real thing, and uses genuine power, rather than the
weak man's substitutes.
23.
Personal Magnetism is diplomatic, controlled; strategic; it does not
stumble or "slop over," upsetting existing conditions. It has a
nicety, a finesse, of adjusting to people, conditions, events.
24.
Stop nerve leakage, energy loss, fidgeting, worry, fussing, and
mind-wandering. Frequently stop a minute and assume full control of your body
and your mind. Learn to shut out unnecessary body motions, and profitless
mental action.
25.
Personal Magnetism deals largely with human minds —swaying, persuading,
pleasing, convincing. To secure this result, you must have the whole attention
of the other mind or minds. Do this—try to avoid the things that prevent the
other man from giving whole-hearted attention to you, and emphasize the
benefits he wins by doing as you suggest—portraying the advantages in ideal
colors.
26.
Make all first impressions upon people clear, vivid, favorable,
magnetic—all in some way charged with the atmosphere of your own strength and
honor.
27.
For business and social success, personal magnetism has two great
allies—creative imagination to forsee and plan, and the golden trait of ACTION,
the power that pushes plans thru to completion.
28.
A secret of personal magnetism is the concentration of all the energies
and powers you possess. As Prof. Hilton says: "Absolute concentration
means the massing of every atom of individual human energy upon a single
purpose. It is the acme of efficiency." Various lessons in this course
work towards this great goal.
29. The man of personal magnetism simply must
influence other men—honorably, of course. It is a
law of life that you are either a leader or a follower, strong or weak.
Personal Magnetism puts you among those of commanding powers.
30.
The fine art of personal magnetism requires that you be master of your
facial expression, your actions, words, temper; that you do not reveal
antipathy, disappointment, ridicule or any phase of expression which would give
others an advantage over you.
31.
Once in a while, during the day's activities, pause a moment and
mentally affirm: "I set myself unalterably to the task of acquiring great
personal magnetism; I will have power—plus power—highest power!" This will
inspire, encourage and stimulate you; results will surprise you.
32.
Muscle grows by use. Money grows thru investment. And Personal Magnetism
develops the more you use it. Find opportunity to use your new force—to see its
effect—to feel the thrill of having it as an asset.
33.
There is no boundary in this world to your use of personal magnetism.
Just as fast as you can add another granite block to your magnetism palace, one
hundred others are with easy reach. Emerson says: "The only sin is
limitation."
Don't give up in your efforts to win.
34.
The secret of successfully "having several irons in the fire at one
time" is this: Don't try to put your mind upon all of them at the same
time. Have but one thing before you at a time, and upon that concentrate all
your forces— mental and physical. Once it is dropped, forget it and concentrate
on the next task.
35.
"The world remembers only those who have conquered it" is a
fitting reference to those whose magnetism makes them leaders of men.
36. Personal Magnetism, impelled by unflinching, indefatigable
will-power—and tempered with right moral motives —constitutes the greatest
possible human success-force. The lessons of this course will do wonders in
giving you precisely this "prize beyond price."
IN CLOSING THIS WORK
We see that a vast amount of ground has been
covered by the seven steps presented in its many chapters. The pupil who has
been in earnest and who has proceeded with a genuine interest from the
beginning to the end will have ascertained by this time that the study of
personal magnetism is the most important element of a practical education, if
that which is most useful in the great world is what is sought.
By this time you will be conscious of a new;
thrill of power that surges through you like a torrent—a resistless power which
beckons obstacles and then proceeds to smash them down.
You have felt this by now. It always comes. It
is the first indication that you have uncovered your latent magnetism; that it
is now blossoming forth—a thing of glory and of power.
As you have read the foregoing pages and let
sink into your mind the real meaning of the laws and principles set forth, you
have at times felt as though a shutter had suddenly been removed from your
consciousness and a flood of light and understanding let in. And you have
proceeded to put your new-found information into use—to your great profit.
You have been given not one, nor a few—but all—of
the basic laws and principles of magnetism. To realize the tremendous power
that has been placed in your hands, remember this: Most men who succeed
because of an impressive personality do so because they have stumbled on and consistently
apply one single principle. Yet see what the utilization of only one
principle does for them!
But you—you have been given all the basic
laws and principles for cultivation of personal magnetism. Consider
carefully, then, what tremendous power has been placed in your hands—the power
to develop a many-sided, complete, all-around, masterful, magnetic
personality. Remember
this
at all times. It is necessary to do so in order to bring forth your
personality to its fullest extent.
Remember at all times, also, that growth and development of any kind
takes time. The oak does not spring up in a day. The material has been placed
in your hands. Now it is up to you to use it. No one can do that for
you. You must do it yourself. Your success now depends only on the
degree of energy and intelligent application you put forth in erecting your
edifice of magnetism.
Your power will increase from day to day. Apply consistently the laws
and principles set forth, and soon you'll be truly amazed at the rapid development
of your hidden powers, and the unfoldment of your personality.
Already you are capable of doing things you were doubtful about
tackling formerly. People who failed to notice you are now beginning to take an
interest in you, for they see in you a "comer." And all the world
seeks to link up with a man of promise. You also find it easier to make and to
hold friends; you can more than "hold up your end" in your personal
and business dealings with people.
Get this fact firmly in mind: Develop your personal magnetism and
nothing can stop you from winning whatever success within human bounds that
you desire. That is
the law.
It is all up to you. Never permit yourself for a single moment to become
discouraged. Remember what Lincoln said, "It is always darkest the moment
before dawn." Opportunities often hide in the most unpromising places,
and obstacles and trials often come to us to test our mettle.
When the test comes to you—as it comes to everyone— how will it find you
? Let it find you supreme in your confidence that nothing can hurt you,
handicap you, daunt you. For all human obstacles crumple up like a house of
cards before the compelling force of a dominant, magnetic personality.
You have now discovered your "dominant faculty" with which
Nature endowed you. You have begun to consciously develop this latent
power. Results have
already given you
surprise, encouragement, confidence. You feel supreme in your
possession of this power.
The lessons have shown thousands of facts,
among which are the following as the most prominent:
1.
That magnetism permeates all life from the least to the greatest.
2.
What it is, how it exists, and its methods of operation.
3.
The accidents by which some persons are naturally endowed with the
so-called power.
4.
The kind of individual who cannot acquire personal magnetism.
5.
The kind of individual who can acquire personal magnetism.
6.
The popular errors now prevalent on the subject,
7.
The best course to pursue.
8.
The advantage derived from private personal experiments on one's self.
9.
The use of experiments on others.
10.
The best use of personal magnetism as a power in general life.
11.
The best methods of gauging the condition at any time.
12.
The best methods of measuring the progress made at each stage of the
work.
The first three of these leading facts are seen
in the early stages of the book. The next two are proved by the results reached
in the case of those who undertake to advance through the volume by complying
with the requirements, for the method is sure to develop personal magnetism in
each and every individual who possesses the intelligence to appreciate the
value of the course and the ambition to master it. Evidence of the possibility
of arousing this power is seen almost at the very start. The popular errors on
the subject are exposed in the treatment of the comparative uses of hypnotism
and magnetism. We know of the unyielding claims of certain positive scientists
who insist that some
hypnotists can overpower any person, if sufficient
time be allowed for manipulation; but we still deny the truthfulness of the
claim both in science and in fact, and we are sure that there must be a
cataleptic tendency, even if it is never otherwise developed, in order for any
man or woman to become an hypnotic subject. On the other hand, the power of
personal magnetism is exerted on all persons in the very instant of its
possession.
The best course to pursue is shown over and
over again in the pages of this book, and there can be no mistake of its meaning.
The advantages derived from private personal experiments on one's self are set
forth in countless ways, so to speak, and we see the use of the experiments on
others by the many benefits gained. The best use of the art as a power in life
is summed up in the last chapters of the book. The best ways of gauging your
condition, and of measuring your progress is to adhere to the plan presented in
the book, and to make all the experiments required.
While we have issued many books of training in
the past, and are still issuing them, we know of no work that is so valuable to
every earnest individual as this volume of the
