Book two - Preface
This work is an endeavour to instruct you how to awaken and set at work
the dormant faculties of your brain, that you may be able to overcome all
undesirable conditions now existing, and to start into operation the hidden
forces of your being which will give your life a new and inspiring measure.
In beginning I wish to tell you that Man is not the weak worm of the
dust that he has always supposed himself to be, but that he is a God,
through which the God-mind manifests and externalizes itself.
You at the present moment have Power, Strength, Wisdom and Intelligence,
existing in your sub-consciousness of which you are unaware. Moreover, you have
these attributes in all the quantities and qualities that you will ever need or
desire.
All that is necessary for you to do to manifest these desirable
conditions is a belief, a faith in the mighty truth just stated to you. You may
learn just how to draw upon these hidden forces of your being and by that means
demonstrate the truth of my assertion.
As a beginning, I shall demand that you cease denying the truth of all
things which you at the present stage of your mental development do not
entirely understand and know to be the facts.
Hitherto you only acknowledged the truths demonstrated to you by means
of your five senses, viz., seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling and feeling; but
you will soon
learn to know that you have other senses which may be called into action
at will.
Your Super-conscious Mind is the God of the
Universe and is All-powerful. All-knowing. This life within you is your real self. It is
the as-yet-unexpressed self, in which you "live, move and have your
being." When you refuse this understanding of God and refuse to believe it
is the hidden power within you— you limit your physical strength and power to
do or to be.
It is not my purpose to teach you something you do not know, but to
teach you something you already know, but do not know that you know it. All
knowledge exists in the sub-conscious mind of man and may be drawn upon without
limit.
Man's first duty to himself and to humanity is to seek the powers which
are latent within himself. These dormant faculties of the brain, when found,
must be used and developed. By the use of these latent faculties man will
discover the power to add to himself whatever he desires, whether that be the
attainment of spiritual knowledge, health, wealth, friends, position or
happiness in any of its phases.
The directions herein are an endeavour to arouse you to the truth of
what you can do for yourself and explain how to proceed, promising that the
result will be health, prosperity, friends, position and all else that is good.
There is no royal road to learning. There is only one way to know a
thing and that is through experience which is the result of trial. The best
that we can do with regard to what other men know is to assume their statements
to be true, and then find out some way to test the truth of such statements by
trial.
To accomplish all that is held out to you, you must begin with the
assumption that all the potentialities that exist, exist in you. You must
assume to be true that the Kingdom of God is within you and that this
Kingdom is your real self and able to add to you all things whatsoever you may
desire.
The most powerful suggestion that I may give you is "All the
power necessary to bring you the good there is in life, is in you." I
do not claim for myself a single virtue or power that I do not concede to all
others; nor do I concede to any other a virtue or power that I do not claim for
myself. The sooner you recognize these truths the sooner you will be free. The time is now.
At the present time there has been formulated and adopted concise rules
by which the working principles have become practical and applicable to all
those whose unfolding minds are ripe for their revelations.
The present section of the work, then, is an attempt to set forth these
rules in a clear and systematic manner.
